The season opener for 2011 is in the books! Had a great turnout in spite of less than stellar weather. The day started with overcast conditions in ~30mph sustained winds and 34 degrees, ended under clear skies with ~60 degree air temps. Water was 49-53 and clear to 4-5 ft.

Blasted just after 0730, fished until 1530

It could have been worse tree, I could have been raining.. ! You made it home. First event of the season is allways a shake down.. See what is working, what is not.. There will be a few batteries and one wheel hub Sad sold to boaters this week...

Good job to Will for his first shot at director. The event went off with out a hitch..

I put a few new records into the club book this morning after the Burchard ervent.

Dave Andersons 1640 fish point card was good enough to take 6 th place largest card ever. Dave's 21" fish tied along with 4 others for 10th place largest fish ever.

John Solano's 1365 fish point card put him in 19th best ever.

Combined boat total for these guys was 3005 total points which is 3rd largest boat point total ever to date.

We are still in need of a boater for the Calcutta at Walnut Creek 4/30. I cannot garantee that the weather will be any better then Burchard, but we can hope. Cool

Nate I feel your pain , we blast off and I get to my spot wind howlin drop the t/m and NOTHIN. I think I know Ii charged this thing so I check the connections and they seem alright and then go back to the tm and lift it up and it runs put it in the water and it stops and i am thinkin this ain't good:) it eventually started workin about half right and about half the time which is not good when you are 20 ft from the spillway Evil or Very Mad she decided it would be fun to go crashing into the damn so in she went pinning me against the spillway , well I am thinkin this ain't good as I fire up the big motor mere inches from the rock and half out of the water but I pull out dragging my t/m all the way cuz it is still down which was all that was keepin the bow off the grates, I think Trent learned about 30 new cuss words this trip aaaaargh!

Its okay Mark, I'd have been p*ssed too if my boat was hitting the rocks. As far as the cuss words I'm pretty sure I've heard all those from my wife. LOL

Just wish I would have caught a few more, but with the wind blowing and the temp it was hard. I really need someone to teach me how to jig fish. Swim jigs like chatterbait are easy, but jigging a craw is something different. I figured you'd tap it like a senko, but it never works for me. So if anyone ever wants to meet me out at Walnut and show me how to work a jig I'd appreciate it.

The Small Boat Bass Club has been blessed with some of the best Jig fisheremen in the midwest. I've had the pleasure of fishing with all of them, as will you. Just ask questions, and they will be glad to share information. Just remember, IT TAKES TIME. Most of the guys have been pitching and jiggin for a long time and they make it looks eazy. I have been trying to get confidance in it for a long time, and I can get it done...but it's still not my "Go To" bait. It's knida like learning to worm fish. it will all come together when you feel that first TapTap.
