Heard it was tough, only 5 or so full cards 13 zeros. Jake said he caught 14 or so but couldn't find size.

Okay, here's the story. Larry and I started out just south of goose feces island - three casts with a jerk bait and I was snagged. Got that back and we moved to the inlet tube on the south bank. Water was flowing in at a pretty good clip. Larry booted one at the boat and that was the end of that. Gave it about an hour, 'cause they should have been there. Then moved west down the south arm working the standing timber and brush piles out in the channel. Nothing. Then Larry had the bright idea of tying on a rat-l-trap and ripping through the grass that was up on the shallow flat along the south bank. First cast he got one. I reached down for my chatter bait and started working the grass. Within a few casts I had my first one. Now we have the skunk out of both ends of the boat. We kept working the grass from the point down to where we ran out of water to float in. The wind was giving us fits so we would big motor up to the point and then drift back down til we ran out of water. We did this until 11:00 and kept catching fish on each pass.

I think these were buck bass that were starting to build nests because none of them had signs of being ready to drop eggs. Interestingly the smaller fish would smack it and the larger ones would just load up. Larry had one that swallowed his rat-l-trap. He caught 'em on a spinner bait as well. All of mine came on the chatter bait. We noticed a lot of moving around going on behind us but didn't know we had done so well 'til we got back to the ramp.

Congratulations to Alex and Jon for the 2nd and 3rd and to Larry for being Guide of the Day and bringing in one of the three limits on the day.

The results are in and the arena was FULL, to say the least. There were some who feared the competition and decided they better stay home while others braved the ferocious bumper cars on Walnut Creek. All joking aside thanks for everyone that could make it. There was a LOT of new blood out there and its good to see so many new faces in the club.

Mr. Big Bass was the nicest guy I know...ALEX NISLEYYYYYY!!

Guide of the day was Mr. Larry Podkovich guiding Dave to a win!

Correction - "club fest 2014" - dinks are <12" and there were some of those as well.

correction #2 "Really small Club's fest 2014" If there were a ton of 14" which are clubs too that would be really big clubs.
32 fish carded were 12-13 inch range out of 43 fish carded. that is a ton of smaller fish and not what I would expect from Walnut. Smile

Walnut Creek is always a crap shoot - it can go from high to low in a very short time. Water temps were in the mid to high 50's. I think the fish had other things on their mind beside feeding.

Correction #3 I should be listed as a member not a guest as I paid my dues to El Presidento in the parking lot before the event.

Looks like im going to have to give in and start trying those blasted chatterbaits. The only two I ever bought were victims of trees within the first few casts. Time to burn some more money.

Actually I'm pretty sure that the C-bait, was the perfect bait. We needed something that would ride high in the water collum, make alot of vibration and have some flash. The "Trap" did a pretty good job, but brought back alot of weeds. Spinnerbait did'nt have a good enough vibration/speed ratio.
Dave did a good job of keeping it wet and every time he stuck a fish, he would tell me how he did it... Over and over and over again. Confused Cool
We had a great time till the wind picked up, then it became WORK just to get-r-done.
Congradulations and Good job, Dave, Jon and Alex
